TRUEFAN REACTION: NY KNICKS 2017 FRONT OFFICE RESHAPE
Written by Kyle Crabbe
The New York Knicks continue their
torrent 2017 off-season, filled with organizational reshaping and
team rebuilding. This coming season will welcome many new faces to
the Madison Square Garden Stage. With the abrupt departure of Team
President of Basketball Operations Phil Jackson, the Knicks have made
multiple steps toward moving into a fresh direction.
We can begin talking about the Knicks new front office with the Knicks' hiring
of Scott Perry to become the new general manager of the New York
Knicks. Scott Perry brings to the Knicks' front office a
well-respected, well-liked executive, that has a chartered resume showcasing the
great basketball organizations he has been a part of. Once on board, Perry has been giving the autonomy to build the best team around him in the Knicks new front office to steer this team in a successful path. The Knicks this off-season proceeded in the hiring of Gerald Madkins as assistant general manager,
Craig Robinson as vice president of player development and G-League
operations, Harold Ellis as director of player personnel, Michael
Arcieri as director of Basketball Strategy, and also Fred Cofield as
a player scout. In addition to these moves the Knicks made a
significant internal front office move in promoting Steve Mills from
general manager under Phil Jackson to now becoming the new NY Knicks
President of Basketball Operations. The Knicks also did retain Allan
Houston as General Manager of their G-League team and kept Phil
Jackson's favorite scout Clarence Gaines, Jr.

I
feel the New York Knicks are headed in a very championship worthy
direction for the first time in 25 years. I feel very comfortable
with Steve Mills being the man to steer the Knicks ship. I love what Steve Mills expressed as his motivation and mission in his most
recent article, written on the New York Knicks official blog. I was very proud
of the Scott Perry hire as general manager. For Perry, I already appreciate
his candidness and straight forward talk. I also appreciate
his stated mission for his tenure with New York and I believe it's a
moniker Knicks fans will love. Perry repeatedly has mentioned the
Knicks will now focus on athleticism, youth, teamwork, and defense.
Perry wants a defense first minded team, and coach Jeff Hornacek has
seconded that mentality. I feel strongly about Perry being able to
implement that here in New York because he was a pivital part of the
Detroit Pistons front office from 2000 to
2012. That Detriot Pistions team became a legendary defensive championship
team and I hope Perry can bring something like that here with the
Knicks and I already feel like he has two great youth players that
can bring that in Kristaps Porzingis and Frank Nitlikina.
I
must also commend New York Knicks Owner James Dolan for putting
together the most diverse front office in the NBA. Dolan now looks to
allow the Knicks to mirror the success his other Madison Square Garden
sports team in the NY Rangers have enjoyed in recent times. I also
strongly believe that former Knicks President Phil Jackson left the
Knicks with a phenomenal foundation to build for the coming years.
With several young building block players and all their upcoming
draft picks, the Knicks are in position to develop into a
Championship team within the coming years. I will also say with Steve
Perry as President teaming with Scott Perry as General Manager the
New York Knicks have a very very bright future.
