2019
NBA SEASON AWARDS
-Rookie
Of The Year
Winner:
Cleveland Cavaliers PG Collin Sexton
Runner
Ups:
2nd
Place : New York Knicks SF Kevin Knox
3rd
Place: Phoenix Suns C DeAndre Ayton
4th
Place: Sacramento Kings F Marvin Bagley
5th
Place: Dallas Mavericks Guard Luka Doncic
TrueFan Quick Take:
In the Rookie of the Year race I
have a strong belief that Colin Sexton will have a dominate 1st
NBA Season. Given Sexton's basketball education from long-time San
Antonio Spurs Point Guard Avery “Little General” Johnson at the
University of Alabama there's strong odd's Sexton will get off to a
strong start in his NBA career. 1st Overall Pick DeAndre
Ayton should have a strong statistical season with plenty of
opportunities in Phoenix as well as Duke Product Marvin Bagley with
the young Sacramento Kings. With the injury to Franchise Cornerstone
Kristaps Porzingis in New York, 9th Overall Pick Kevin
Knox could also get a lot of offensive opportunities to make a impact
in his rookie season. Other Rookies to look at will definitely be
Dallas Mavericks Guard Luka Doncic, Los Angeles Clippers Guard Shai
Gilgeous-Alexander, and Atlanta Hawks Guard Trae Young could also
have impactful rookie campaigns.
-Sixth Man Of The Year
Winner:
Toronto Raptors Guard Fred VanVleet
Runner
Ups:
2nd Place Oklahoma City Thunder Guard Dennis
Schroder
3rd Place Boston Celtics Guard Marcus Smart
4th Place Houston Rockets Guard Eric Gordon
5th Place Indiana Pacers Guard Tyreke Evans
TrueFan Quick Take:
The 6th Man of the
year annually favorites will still be Houston Rockets Guard Eric
Gordon, Boston Celtics Guard Marcus Smart and Los Angeles Clippers
Guard Lou Williams. However, I have Guard Fred VanVleet of the
Toronto Raptors winning the award this season representing the best
bench in the NBA affectionately nicknamed the “Bench Mob”.
VanVleet has continually gotten better every season and his history
with new Raptors Head Coach Nick Nurse in the G-League can offer
VanVleet more opportunities to flourish this season with “ The
Bench Mob”. We can also keep a eye out for Guard Dennis Schroder
with the OKC Thunder, for Schroder is one of the Top 15 Guards in the
NBA and will get the benefit of backing up Russell Westbrook and
competing against 2nd teams rather than NBA starting
units.
-Most Improved Player
Winner:
Brooklyn Nets PG D'Angelo Russell
Runner
Ups:
2nd Place Chicago Bulls Forward Jabari Parker
3rd Place New York Knicks Guard Frank Ntilikina
4th Place Indiana Pacers Center Myles Turner
5th Place Atlanta Hawks Forward Taurean
Prince
TrueFan Quick Take:
I believe a healthy season for
Brooklyn Nets Guard D'Angelo Russell will net him a All-Star Caliber
2018-19 Regular Season. The same can be said for new Chicago Bulls
Forward Jabari Parker, after having a injury plagued tenure in
Milwaukee, a breakout can be had for Parker this season if he can
stay on the court more in Chicago than was the case in Milwaukee.
Indiana Pacers Myler Turner looks to be one of a handful of players
in the NBA this year that appears prime to breakout and put their
name on the map. In New York, any one of their 3 young point guards
could end up winning this award, whether Trey Burke, Emmanuel Mudiay
or Frank Nitilikina can be the guy in order for a breakout season
under the coaching of David Fizdale. Not to forget the 12th
overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft, Hawks Forward Taurean Prince this
season will have the opportunity to burst on the scene with new
system and a new coach in Lloyd Pierce in Atlanta.
-Defensive Player Of The Year
Winner:
Utah Jazz C Rudy Gobert
Runner
Ups:
2nd Place New Orleans Center Anthony Davis
3rd Place Toronto Raptors SF Kawhi Leonard
4th Place Milwaukee Bucks Forward Giannis
Antetokounmpo
5th Place Philadelphia 76ers Center Joel
Embiid
TrueFan Quick Take:
I believe the year's Defensive
Player of the year will be a highly contested award this season. All
5 players have a excellent opportunity to win the award with Gobert
landing as the favorite because he is the defending previous winner
of the award. A couple honorable mentions for the award however are
Indiana Pacers Guard Victor Oladipo, Philadelphia 76ers Guard Ben
Simmons, and Golden State Warriors Forward Draymond Green.
-Coach Of The Year
Winner:
Toronto Raptors Coach Nick Nurse
Runner
Ups:
2nd Place Milwaukee Bucks Coach Mike
Budenholzer
3rd Place Utah Jazz Coach Quinn Synder
4th Place New York Knicks Coach David Fizdale
5th Place OKC Thunder Coach Billy Donovan
TrueFan Quick Take:
A dominate season from the
Toronto Raptors, which could see Kawhi Leonard excelling in the East
will put new Raptors Head Coach Nick Nurse at the top for potential
Coach Of the Year Candiates. Likewise, in Milwaukee, if Giannis
Antetokounmpo has a supreme
season and the Bucks are to achieve great success, could net new Buck
Head Coach Mike Budenholzer this trophy.
-Most Valuable Player MVP
Winner:
Toronto Raptors SF
Kawhi Leonard
Runner
Ups:
2nd Place Milwaukee Bucks Forward Giannis
Antetokounmpo
3rd Place OKC Thunder Guard Russell Westbrook
4th Place Washington
Wizards Guard John Wall
5th Place
Los Angeles Lakers Forward LeBron James
TrueFan Quick Take:
The most sought
after award every season I believe will go through the Eastern
Conference this season. It's looking like whomever of these three
candidate's teams wins the most games this year will capture the MVP
Award. Between 1) Washington Wizards John Wall, 2) Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis Antetokounmpo, or 3) Toronto Raptors Kawhi Leonard will
decide this season's NBA Most Valuable Player.
